Cecelia St Clair Rembert

I am interested in painting as a process.

The integrity of my materials is a priority: I make my own paint and primers.

My process involves telling stories and then erasing them, wiping and scraping away details and whole plot lines.  For me, the experience of impermanence is necessary in the pursuit of truth, and what feels true is the resonant pigment and mark.

My desire for my work is that it exist outside the realm of words, and communicate directly with the knowing apparatus of the viewer, bypassing the mind with its narratives and motives.

In contrast to our busy world of “content” I am interested in making paintings that sit mute, holding something within them that isn’t readily grasped consciously, but unfolds in direct communication with our intuitive self.
